The Darkling Tree

Walking amidst a forest of dark,
I stumbled upon a clearing of light.
The sun shone through the green canopy,
As if boasting what stood there alone, so black yet somehow bright.
A twisted tree, black branches gnarled about
As if they were once frozen, while writhing to escape a horrible blight.

Darkly fruits hung from this tree of sin,
Pleading to be plucked from its blackened tendrils.
Screaming for salvation, beseeching to perhaps be thrown by a beautiful wind.
The evil emanating from their night-like rinds,
Malice dripped from their horrid skin.
Dripping in a crimson odium of my very soul,
Forming a malevolent sea of repulsive desire, flowing with sin.

In that ominous pool of lust,
I watched my reflection burst into slain foes.
The heat of their hatred sending heated limbs towards me
Their eyes burning into my soul then imploding to dust,
Forming the words, “Vengeance is closer than the end of eternity.”
I swallowed hard as the deadly sea absorbed into the Earth
And crept down to its origin.

Pondering about it for only moments,
Wondering of all that could possibly happen
If I were to indulge but only once.
The darkling edifice of wrath offered me escape.
Escape of all the wraiths awaiting their vengeance.
I approached the wicked deformity…this malevolent blemish upon Earths face
And felt its offerings being handed to me.

The malice boiling to the surface,
The lust overtaking my entire being,
The ecstasy of sweetly slumbers stealing my grace
Sickly feelings of disgust being overrun with complacent
And the high of adrenaline reddening my face…
As I sank my teeth into the rind of a black pear,
I tasted the bittersweet of sin.

The light quickly came has hastily gone,
And night falls upon me, hailing me with a darkly grin.
I feel the hands of foes slain grasp my shoulders
Listening to their laughter, I can hear them gloat of my greed,
How they knew that I’d not be able to turn down an offer of eternity…
Laughter of how I had run…
How I had run right into their arms.
