A Friend Gone Afar

Washed up upon this bloody shore,
‘tis one I’ve not known before…
Lying lone, as I watch thee stray to the sea,
Leaving Earth, and leaving life…leaving all, and leaving me.

Long nights have sent my mind to wander,
Running through thoughts I did once ponder…
Questions and wishes,
Repenting thoughts once malicious,
Thinking thoughts of a friend now above,
Feeling memories so pure,
They tear me apart,
Infecting me at my core.

O’ How days do drag,
Setting weeks to lag,
Alas, months crawl by
And past the years start to fly…

Still I feel the mind of a friend I once knew,
Until to heaven she sullenly flew…
Yet clinging thoughts have me pray,
That her soul has found the way,
As I let my mind wander elsewhere,
Yon feelings no longer ware at my mind…
Now they comfort me,
Telling me that such a person was once at my side.

Though this hair has turned gray,
Thoughts of friends once lost have given way…
Still existential, they are,
And now my lost friend shan’t be far.
